A "disc jockey" szó jelentése

A DISCO hazai kialakulásának sajátosságai közé tartozik a „disc jockey” szó magyarítására tett próbálkozások is.
A legegyszerűbb és legáltalánosabb a tükörfordítás: lemez + lovas = lemezlovas. Ám Magyarországon a dj-k döntő többsége hosszú évekig nem lemezt, hanem –orsós vagy kezettás- szalagot illetve lejátszót használt. Ezért inkább a „szalaglovas” lehetett volna a megnevezésük.
A „zsoké” szó sem jellemezte az akkori tevékenységüket, bár kétségtelen, hogy a jó dj a zenét „meglovagolja”, meghajtja, irányítja, uralja, és nem viteti magát vele.
A „diszkó zenésze” még sokféle titulust kapott (lemezgazda, hangulatfelelős) de a lemezlovas bizonyult maradandónak.
A magam részéről – ha már magyarul akartuk nevezni – a „lemezbemutató”-t tartottam a legkifejezőbb magyarításnak. Ez utalt az akkori djk egyik fontos feladatára, valamint lemezt bemutatni nem csak lemezzel, hanem bármilyen hanghordozóval lehet.
Így ez a megnevezés (vagy a hanglemez-bemutató) a mai napig használatos a „hivatalos” nyelvezetben is.
